Traveling by bus

If you are on holiday in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein, you can simply leave your car at home, because the bus connections between the individual locations are well developed. With the Upper Austrian Transport Association (OÖVV), you can easily reach the most beautiful sights by bus. Whether the picturesque Gosausee, the oldest salt mine in the world - the “Salzwelten” in Hallstatt, or the unforgettable world of caves in the Dachstein massif, the bus will take you safely and comfortably right to the "front door".

Numerous possibilities

The bus routes run from Obertraun via Hallstatt to the imperial town of Bad Ischl or from the picturesque Gosau valley via Bad Goisern to Bad Ischl. Depending on the time of day, bus passengers traveling in the direction of Hallstatt - if they want to go to Bad Ischl - have to change at the "Gosaumühle" interchange.

Here, the bus is usually already waiting in a direct connection from Gosau to Bad Ischl. By the way: If you are unsure whether you have to change buses there, it is best to ask the bus driver. This connection takes you to numerous districts of Bad Goisern, to the Bad Ischl district of "Lauffen" and on to the centre of the imperial city.

For your individually planned excursions with the bus of the Upper Austrian Transport Association (OÖVV), we have put together suitable links below under "Information at a Glance". We wish you a pleasant holiday with the bus in the Salzkammergut. Have a good trip!

Another tip

On our pages you will find the nearest bus stop to all important attractions. The link to the Scotty timetable is also included. This way you will reach your destination even faster and you will have more time to enjoy.

Flexible through the Salzkammergut with the "Freizeit-Ticket OÖ" (Leisure Ticket)

The "Freizeit-Ticket OÖ" ("OÖ" stands for the Austrian province "Oberösterreich / Upper Austria ") is a day network ticket of the OÖ Verkehrsverbund. Through a cooperation with the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund GmbH, it is also valid in the entire Salzkammergut in the province of Salzburg and enables the use of all regional public transport in Upper Austria as well as in the Salzkammergut (Upper Austria and Salzburg). For 26.50 euros, it allows unlimited travel on regional trains, buses, city transport and local trains from Stern & Hafferl.

Particularly practical

The ticket is valid for up to two adults and a maximum of four children under the age of 15. Couples also benefit twice, as each person is entitled to their own voucher – so up to two leisure tickets can be redeemed per stay.

The ticket is valid from Monday to Friday from 09:00 a.m., on weekends and public holidays the ticket can be used all day until 03:00 a.m. of the following day. You will receive the ticket directly when boarding the regional bus or at numerous train stations in the Salzkammergut. Just ask for the "Upper Austrian Leisure Ticket".
