Lehár Villa & Lehár Monument in Bad Ischl
Lehárvilla - At home with a great composer
On the right bank of the Traun is the striking villa, which was bought by the Duchess of Sabran around 1890. The villa probably received its present appearance as early as 1842, after numerous conversions and changes of ownership.
Franz Lehár bought the villa in 1912 and lived there almost every year during the summer months until his death in 1948. Many of his operettas were written here. For the most part, the rooms have been left unchanged. Numerous gifts from admirers as well as personal items keep the memory of the composer alive. He collected a large number of valuable paintings, furniture and memorabilia, so that the house - in addition to his personal memorabilia - houses a unique art collection worth seeing.

Franz Lehár stipulated in his will that the villa should be used as a museum.
Franz Lehár am Klavier
In accordance with Lehár's wishes, the villa was opened to the public as a museum after his death. The Lehár Villa is one of the few artists' houses in Europe that has been preserved fully furnished.
Since July 2002, the Lehárvilla has been offering additional showrooms. Sophie Lehár's apartment has been prepared with considerable effort and offers space to commemorate the operetta composers Franz Lehár and Oscar Straus.
In 2024, the Lehárvilla reopened on May 2 after an extensive general renovation. By installing an elevator system and adapting rooms, barrier-free requirements were met and additional necessary rooms were created for the museum's operations.
