On the Krippenstein (name of the mountain) - at 2,100m above sea level - the Austrian State Championships in paragliding were held in 1999 with great success. It is a wonderful flying area with a fantastic panorama. This take-off area (1480m) is easy and ideally suited for the first flight.

The BGV cable car takes you up comfortably to the Krippenbrunn mountain station. The start is only a few meters below the station from the ski slope. On this sheltered place about 1000 m above Obertraun, the wind is almost always right for flying. Run-up, take off and the adventure begins. You glide silently past the Schafeck and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Loser, Sarstein and Lake Hallstatt. The landing is gentle and safe either at the landing site next to the sports field, or at the landing site at the lido in Obertraun.
The Krippenstein (2100 metres) is one of the most impressive airfields in the Alps. With an altitude difference of over 1500 m between the take-off and landing site and its fantastic panorama, it offers unique impressions not only for the passenger but also for every pilot. The start is in a westerly direction. High up you fly along Lake Hallstatt, past the Hirlatz and the perpendicular rock faces. You can see up to the Dachstein glacier, Simonyhütte and down to the Salzberg with the World Heritage Site of Hallstatt.
If desired, you can land in the Echerntal near Hallstatt or after a tour of the lake at the lido in Obertraun. A little weak knees before take-off and after landing are simply part of it, and even if you didn't take any photos on the way because of all the excitement, you will never forget this wonderful flying experience.
