Online tickets will only be available again after the renovation work from spring 2026. However, the exact date for the reopening has not yet been set. Meeting point for your visit to the Salt Mine
The Salzkammergut is rich in very special treasures. But it is not gold, silver or precious stones that make the picturesque spot in the heart of Austria so unique. It is the proud history, the breathtaking nature and, above all, the people of the region that breathe their soul into the area and make it our unmistakable home.
Just as the lakes of the Salzkammergut are fed by the glacier of the Dachstein, the wealth of the region is fed by its tradition. The hand-picked natural salt from the Salzkammergut is also inspired by all these noble ingredients - and this is not least due to the hard-working miners of the region. Like countless generations of ancestors before them, the treasure hunters of the Salzkammergut still drive deep into the mountain day after day and bring the "white gold" to daylight.
Through the tube to Ebensee
In Hallstatt, brine is extracted, which is led to Ebensee via the oldest pipeline in the world. In the Ebensee saltworks, high-quality table and industrial salt is produced from it. A rare speciality is the natural salt from the nearby Altaussee. Salt in its natural and original form is one of the most valuable treasures that the Austrian mountains produce. Mined according to old mining tradition, sorted by hand and, of course, without additives - this is how BAD ISCHLER natural salt comes to the table.
Your gateway to the salt mines
If you're planning a trip to the world's oldest salt mine or the fascinating Skywalk Hallstatt, be sure to stop by the Salt Mine Visitor Centre.
Spicy holiday memories

In addition to the free Wi-Fi reception on the entire site, the "Window to the Roman Era" shows numerous representations of the excavations from the history of the area.
Large selection
In the adjoining Salt Mine Shop, you will find over 200 m² of precious salt. In addition to the premium salt products of Salinen Austria AG, high-quality travel souvenirs, books, textiles and gifts are offered. The highlight is certainly the new BAD ISCHLER Salzzart – hand-scooped, pyramid-shaped salt flakes from Hallein's Dürrnberg. It is dissolved from the mountain with pure mountain spring water, produced slowly and carefully in the pan on the basis of years of experience and a lot of love for the product, skimmed off and bottled by hand. By the way: High-quality products made from salt are an ideal gift!
Second Salt Mine Shop in Hallstatt
In addition to the Salt Mine Shop at the valley station of the Salzberg cable car, there is another salt shop of the Salt Mine directly at the bus terminal at the entrance to Hallstatt.
