BergeSeen Trail Stage 31
The first section of the ‘Loser’ alpine variation leads from Bad Aussee, the main town of the Styrian Salzkammergut, over meadow terrain to the beautiful Lake Altaussee with its breathtaking views of the steep cliffs of the Loser and Trisselwand Mountains. From Altaussee, the route ascends along a shady and moderately steep forest path to the viewing terrace of the Loser Hut.
From Bad Aussee to Altaussee (1 ½ hours)
From the tourism office at the Kurpark in Bad Aussee, the route heads uphill to the north through the Kammerhofgasse, continues to the Chlumetzkyplatz and then travels along the Bäckergasse and the Haslauergasse. The trail steeply ascends via the Franz-Thieß-Gasse to the baroque Klosterhof courtyard until finally arriving in the Obertressen neighbourhood. The trail continues to the north along a narrow street through meadow terrain to the Hollau neighbourhood and then onward to the Platten neighbourhood. From there, the trail heads left along the Plattenkogel Path to the shores of Lake Altausee. Following the beautiful lakeshore trail, the route finally arrives in the village centre of Altaussee with its town hall and nearby parish church.
From Altaussee to the Loser Hut (2 ½ hours)
From the parish church, the route heads left along the Fischerndorferstraße, turns right after 70 meters at the ‘Loserhütte’ sign and eventually arrives at the Kalvarienberg Chapel. The trail continues along a wide path into the forest and finally reaches a junction. The route turns left and ascends along the Hüttenweg Path, meandering in wide turns through a shady forest until crossing the Loser Road. Soon thereafter, the trail reaches the huts of the Augstalm Meadow. The route then ascends to the right, passing underneath avalanche barriers, and after a short time, arrives at the beautifully situated Loser Hut.
