Hiking in the Landscape around Lake Hallstatt

The starting point for the walk to the Schergenkogel is near the former petrol-station, now a small reataurant, at Winkl in Obertraun. A woodland path, at first steep, but shaded, leads us in about 45 minutes to the Aussicht Schergenkogel. The lookout is also marked with an Austrian flag and from the benches there we can enjoy the panoramic view. Very near to the Hallstatt lake, at the bathing areas where the sunhungry frolic with Hallstatt in the background, our eyes sweep to the north-east and into the Koppental, taking in almost the whole of Obertraun.
